2. Theme: Filial Piety
Filial piety is a traditional virtue of the Chinese nation. Of all virtues, filial piety is paramount; it is the duty and obligation of children to be dutiful to their parents. From the day we are born, our parents selflessly dedicate their love and care. We should also do our best to repay our parents, allowing them to feel our respect and concern.
Zengzi said: "The greatest filial piety is to honor one's parents; the next is not to disgrace them; and the lowest is to provide for them."
The highest level of filial piety comes from the heart, manifesting in respect and care for one's parents. In daily life, one should frequently inquire about and care for them, and maintain regular contact when away from home to avoid causing them worry. Secondly, one should strive to avoid words or actions that might upset or humiliate their parents, and explain things tactfully when they make mistakes. The most basic form of filial piety is to take care of their daily needs when they require it. We should put filial piety into practice in our daily lives.
