I Love Hong Kong Historical Photo Research Competition

The I Love Hong Kong Association and the Hong Kong Museum of History jointly organized a historical photograph research competition, hoping to enhance students' and the public's interest in and understanding of Hong Kong history through the study of historical photographs and the collection of relevant historical materials.

Each year, the organizers set a different theme for this competition, all of which revolve around Hong Kong. For example, the theme of the eighth competition was "Leisure and Entertainment in Hong Kong." Leisure and entertainment are not only a part of the lives of the previous generation of Hong Kong people, but also a collective memory for us today, providing an interesting way to understand Hong Kong's history. The historical photograph research competition is divided into student and open groups. Participants choose one of more than ten historical photographs of Hong Kong, collect relevant information on its background, people, era, or development, and write a report. However, the content must be related to Hong Kong.

In addition, the competition invited professionals to serve as judges, including Dr. Ding Xinbao, Honorary Senior Research Fellow of the Department of History at the Chinese University of Hong Kong; Dr. Zhou Jiarong, Professor of the Department of History at Hong Kong Baptist University; Dr. Liu Zhipeng, Director of the Hong Kong and South China History Research Unit at Lingnan University; Mr. Huang Haochao, Chairman of the Hong Kong History Research Centre of this Association; Dr. Xian Yuyi, Professor of the Centre for Asian Studies at the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Hong Kong; Dr. Zhao Yule, Professor of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Open University of Hong Kong; Ms. Qiu Xiaojin, Curator of the Hong Kong Museum of History; Dr. Liang Caoya, former Assistant Professor of the Department of Social Sciences at the Hong Kong Institute of Education; Ms. Shi Xiuying, Chief Archives and Historical Culture Officer of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals; and Mr. Li Zhixiong, Chief Curriculum Development Officer of the Curriculum Development Office of the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The winning entries will also be exhibited at the Hong Kong Museum of History.

In previous competitions, our association received many outstanding entries, among which the reports in the open category have made breakthroughs in research and demonstrated a very high level of academic expertise. Dr. Ding Xinbao, the chief judge, once said that such high-quality works are rare in his many years of judging work.
